Cincinnati Cyclones News Release
BILOXI, Mississippi - The Mississippi Seawolves spotted the Cincinnati Cyclones a 2-0 lead in the first 16 minutes of the game and then battled back with three unanswered goals over the next 21 minutes to grab the lead and take the win, 3-2. The defeat ended Cincinnati's seven game road winning streak.
The Cyclones raced to a 2-1 first period lead, as Mark Van Guilder's power play goal at 12:02 started things off. Ben Gordon and J.T. Wyman got the assists. Wyman leaped at the blueline to knock down a clearing pass and played the puck ahead to Gordon on the left boards, who played the puck on to Van Guilder who broke behind the defenseman and scored. Matt Syroczynski netted his eleventh goal of the year at 15:53, also on the power play, to open a 2-0 edge. Syroczynski scored in traffic out in front as Van Guilder and Gordon dished off the assists. Mathieu Melanson responded with a power play goal at 16:33 to cut the deficit to one. The shots on goal favored the Cyclones, 13-9, in the first period.
Mississippi collected both goals of the second period to grab a 3-2 lead. Ryan Cruthers scored his 23rd goal at 5:41 to tie the game on the power play and Ryan Menei's seventh goal at 16:36 gave the Seawolves their first lead of the night. The shots favored Cincinnati, 10-8, in the second period.
There was no scoring in the third period, as Cincinnati outshot Mississippi, 8-7, in the period and 31-24 for the game.
The Cyclones are now 26-17-5 on the season, while Mississippi is 19-23-4. The Cyclones play at Mississippi on Sunday at 6pm. The game will be broadcast on MAX-FM (97.7 and 99.5) with the pregame airing at 5:45pm.
