Salmon Kings Stopped By Wranglers

Victoria Salmon Kings News Release
Victoria, BC - In a Friday night match-up the Victoria Salmon Kings and Las Vegas Wranglers collided in the second contest of a four-game set. Goaltender Todd Ford got the nod in net for the Kings while the Wranglers countered with Kevin Lalande.
The Wranglers were the first to crack the scoreboard, a neutral zone turnover by the Salmon Kings created a 2-on-1 rush. Shawn Limpright decided to hold onto the puck and the Las Vegas winger would collect his seventh goal of the year beating Ford on a high blocker wrist shot. Wes Goldie would score his 38th of the season short handed with just 25 seconds to play in the opening frame. Goldie gained possession of the puck, immediately after a faceoff in the Wranglers zone, and would bank a short side shot off of Lalande into the back of the net. Both teams would head to the locker rooms squared up at one a piece.
Much of the middle frame was taken up by penalty minutes; each team had man advantage opportunities, which created chances but no goals. With 1:51 left in the period the Wranglers would re-take the lead after a streaking Limpright slid a hard pass over to Adam Miller allowing him to redirect the puck up and over Fords shoulder. Las Vegas would take a 2-1 lead into the final period.
Las Vegas jumped out early in the third and added to their 2-1 lead. Mick Lawrence snapped home his ninth of the year from the slot to beat Ford just 37 seconds into play. The Salmon Kings' Adam Taylor banged in a Curtis Billsten rebound to put the Salmon Kings within one goal of the Wranglers. That was Taylor's first tally of the season. After some late pressure, Victoria's push to even things up fell short. Shawn Limpright scored his second of the night into an empty net with just under a minute of play left. Wranglers 4 Salmon Kings 2.
Victoria finished 0/6 = 0% on the power play, while Las Vegas finished 0/4= 0%. The Salmon Kings outshot the Wranglers 36-34.
This four-game set continues tomorrow night as the Salmon Kings host their second annual Pink in the Rink. Face-off is at 7:05PM tomorrow and puck drop for the Sunday finale is at 5:05. For tickets, call 220-7777 or visit www.selectyourtickets.com.
