Ontario Reign News Release
ONTARIO, Calif. - The Ontario Reign, proud affiliate of the NHL Los Angeles Kings and AHL Manchester Monarchs, were defeated by the Stockton Thunder before a crowd of 6,569 fans Friday evening at Citizens Business Bank Arena.
After a scoreless first period, Stockton got on the board at 2:15 when left wing Mike Lalonde came around the right side of the net and threw a top-shelf goal past Ontario netminder Kellen Briggs. Right wing Ryan MacMurchy registered the assist. Less than two minutes later, Thunder defenseman Matt O'Dette took advantage of a Reign penalty and sent the puck through the five-hole and into Ontario's net from the top of the face-off circle. Center Damian Surma and defenseman Ryan Constant registered the assists on the power play goal, and the score was 2-0 in favor of the Thunder.
Stockton extended their lead, 3-0, at 9:54 in the second period, when center Craig Valette buried the puck behind Briggs off a feed from defenseman Daryl Marcoux.
The Reign answered back on a power play at 19:53 in the second, when defenseman P.J. Atherton launched a shot from above the right face-off circle towards the net. Right wing Geoff Walker redirected the puck off the crossbar and into the net. The score was Thunder 3, Reign 1 as the teams headed into the third period of play.
The score remained unchanged until 17:14 in the third period, when Thunder center Cory Urquhart heaved the puck into the top corner of the net, beating Briggs on his stick side. Mike Lalonde and Daryl Marcoux registered the assists on the play, and Stockton extended their lead, 4-1. Exactly 30 seconds later, Ryan Huddy stuffed a wrap-around goal past Briggs' pads. The Reign were unable to find the back of the net for the remainder of the match, and Stockton went on to win the game with a final score of Thunder 5, Reign 1.
