Florida Everblades News Release

CHARLESTON, SC - The Florida Everblades (33-11-2) suffered their second straight loss to the South Carolina Stingrays (24-18-5) who used a four-goal second period and four power play goals to cruise to a 6-2 victory on Saturday night at North Charleston Coliseum.

The Stingrays came out strong in the opening 20 minutes out-shooting the Everblades 12-5 and out-scoring them 2-1. For the fourth straight this week between them, South Carolina tallied the game's first goal when Josh Godfrey registered his second goal of the season at 11:57 with the Stingrays short-handed. The goal was Godfrey's second of the season and both have come short-handed vs. the Everblades.

The Everblades recovered from that goal to even the score at one at 15:40 when Patrick Bordeleau's one-time shot from the right circle sailed over the glove of Stingrays net-minder Jonathan Boutin. The play was made possible by Noah Babin who kept the puck in at the right point before slipping it to Bordeleau in the circle where he cashed in his sixth goal of the year.

The Stingrays however collected a late power play marker to grab the lead back. With two minutes remaining in the frame Trent Campbell fed a pass from the left corner across the top of the crease to Michael Dubuc at the right post where he slammed the puck past Everblades goaltender David Leggio.

Things unraveled for the Everblades in the second period as South Carolina jumped on them for two goals in the first four and a half minutes. The first of four-goal barrage came at 3:24 on Dubuc's second goal of the night when his shot from the bottom of the right circle found its way over the left shoulder of Leggio for a 3-1 lead.

Shortly after play resumed, Everblades head coach Malcolm Cameron pulled Leggio for Anton Khudobin. Unfortunately the switch didn't pay off as Dubuc completed the hat-trick with a slap shot from the right circle that clanked off the underside of the cross bar and in at 4:34.

Keith Johnson then got in on the scoring at 7:48 after taking a pass from Maxime Lacroix in the slot where he one-time a shot low on the ice past Khudobin to open a 5-1 lead. The second period scoring closed with Dubuc's fourth goal when he unleashed a wicked slap shot from the top of the right circle that found the upper right corner of the net over the glove of Khudobin.

Cameron then re-inserted Leggio for the remainder of the game during which he held the Stingrays off the board. The Everblades scored the final goal of the night with a power play goal in the third period by Mathieu Roy. At 7:42 the Everblades worked the puck in deep where Ernie Hartlieb scooped it up. He then fed a pass to Roy at the right post where he stuffed it through Boutin. Kevin Baker added the second assist on Roy's 16th goal of the season.

Leggio (16-4-1) took the loss in allowing three goals on 25 shots in the 49 minutes he played, while Khudobin finished the night allowing three goals on four shots in the 11 minutes he played. Boutin meanwhile notched his second straight win over the Everblades by making 30 saves to improve his record to 12-5-2.

With the win by South Carolina, the season series finished with each team winning six games.

On the power play, the Everblades finished the night 1-of-7, while Stingrays closed out the game 4-of-11.
