July 15, 2024 - GASTONIA, N.C. - Zawyer Sports & Entertainment, the ownership group for the Gastonia Baseball Club, has strengthened its footprint in the Charlotte, North Carolina area by acquiring controlling interest of the Charlotte Checkers. The Checkers, the top minor league affiliate of the Florida Panthers in the American Hockey League, made the announcement regarding the acquisition on Monday.

July 14, 2024 - Catcher Patrick Mazeika and player-coach Ian McKinney are both headed to the Mexican League after their contracts were purchased last week.
Mazeika's contract was purchased by Mexico City on July 5, while McKinney was picked up by Monclova on July 9.
Mazeika attended Stetson University in Florida and was drafted by the New York Mets in 2015. He played in the big leagues in 2021 and 2022, becoming the first player in MLB history to record multiple walk-off RBIs in his first four career games. Since playing for the Mets,... Full Story
July 13, 2024 - Left-handed pitchers Zac Lowther and Nick Wells both had their contracts purchased by
Toros de Tijuana of the Mexican League on Wednesday, July 3.
Lowther was drafted by the Baltimore Orioles in the second round of the 2017 MLB Draft out of Xavier University. The southpaw pitched in the big leagues in 2021 and 2022 with the O's, making 11 appearances.
The Cleveland, Ohio native has had a dominant 2024 season with Gastonia. Lowther is 4-0 with a 2.82 ERA, walking 31 and striking out a league-leading 74 in 54.1 innings.... Full Story
July 10, 2024 - GASTONIA, N.C. - Gastonia Baseball Club right-hander Phoenix Sanders and center fielder Josh Stowers were named to the Atlantic League Mid-Season All-Star team on Wednesday.
Phoenix Sanders has thrived in the closer role for Gastonia this season. The former Tampa Bay Ray is 3-0 with a 1.73 ERA in 24 appearances. Sanders has issued six walks and has recorded 33 strikeouts in 26 innings pitched. The Augsburg, Germany native has a league-high 12 saves on the season.
