Zion Lifts White Team Over Green Team
October 2, 2003 - ECHL (ECHL)
Utah Grizzlies News Release
West Valley City, Utah - The Utah Grizzlies training stepped it up a level or two on Thursday night before a capacity crowd at the Acord Ice Center when camp participants split up into two clubs and played in a Green-White scrimmage. Strong defense from both team and outstanding goaltending was on display for 59 minutes and 59 seconds before Jonathan Zion of the White team took the rebound off a missed shot that hit the end boards and lifted a shorthanded goal past Green goaltender Peter Hirsch for the game's lone tally. David Cornacchia registered the lone assist.
Green outshot the White club 31-24 but strong goaltending came from Jason Bacashihua (20 saves) and Sean Connors (11 saves) who combined for the shutout. Hirsh (12 saves) and Dan Ellis (11 saves) were both strong in net for the Green time but fell just one second short.
Next Game: The teams will square off again tomorrow night at the Acord Ice Center in the final scrimmage of training camp. Face-off is scheduled for 7:00 PM with admission being just $5.00.
