October 2, 2003 - ECHL (ECHL)
Atlantic City Boardwalk Bullies News Release

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. – The Atlantic City Boardwalk Bullies of the ECHL have announced that all-star goaltender Scott Stirling has been assigned to the club by Bridgeport, the American Hockey League affiliate of the New York Islanders. Stirling will report with the rest of the team when training camp opens Saturday at Flyers SkateZone.

Stirling, the all-time winningest goaltender in franchise history, will report to his third consecutive training camp with the Bullies. The 26-year old netminder enjoyed another superb season in 2002-03 going 17-3-4 for the Bullies with a 2.93 GAA and a .906 % save percentage, and received the starting nod for the North in the 2003 ECHL All-Star Game. Over the course of the year, he was also called up seven times to the AHL, the most of any Bullies player. Stirling appeared in 11 games between Bridgeport and Worcester, going 9-2 with a 2.45 GAA and a .911% save percentage. He did return to start all five games in the Kelly Cup Finals leading the Bullies to their first ever championship.

The past three weeks the Hull, MA native has participated with the New York Islanders and Bridgeport during their training camps.

"We're excited to have Scott join us for camp," said Head Coach Mike Haviland. "We hope that he gets another opportunity to return to the AHL this season, but he did some great things for this organization last year and I know the fans will be happy that he's back.

Haviland also announced that the team had come to terms with rookie goaltender Jake Moreland and rookie forward Jon Cullen. Per club policy, terms of the agreements were not disclosed.

Moreland and Cullen come to the Bullies after both players finished up great collegiate careers last year at St. Cloud State University. The duo led the Huskies to a 17-16-5 record in 2002-03 and a spot in the NCAA Tournament. Moreland, 23, went 14-9-1 in his Senior season with a 3.00 GAA and a 0.911% save percentage. The Grand Forks, ND native later joined the Bullies during their postseason run, and appeared in two playoff games against Greensboro going 2-0 with a 1.69 GAA and a .945% save percentage.

Cullen, 25, ranked second on the Huskies in scoring last season with 16 goals and 21 assists. A native of Alexandria, MN, Cullen put up strong numbers in his four years at St. Cloud State finishing with 44 goals and 69 assists.

The Bullies have also announced that they will release their entire training camp roster tomorrow afternoon.
