Bombers Sign Crain, Deskins and Galbraith to Contracts

October 2, 2003 - ECHL (ECHL)
Dayton Bombers News Release

The Dayton Bombers have announced that defenseman Jason Crain and forwards Jason Deskins and Lance Galbraith have signed player contracts. The trio becomes the first group of players inked by Bombers' Head Coach Jamie Ling.

"We are really glad to have these three players back in the fold for the 2003-2004 season," said Bombers' Head Coach Jamie Ling. "All three are young, coachable players who long to get better and whose best days are ahead of them."

Crain, a four-year product of Ohio State University (NCAA) who captained the Buckeyes during his senior season (2001-2002), was acquired by the Bombers on November 27, 2003 from the Mississippi Sea Wolves. The 6'3", 190 lb. rookie blueliner scored five goals and added 27 assists in 50 games played with the Bombers after his arrival. One of those goals was an overtime game-winner in a 4-3 home triumph versus Johnstown on January 12, 2003. Crain also played seven games at the AHL level (one with the Bombers' AHL affiliate, the Syracuse Crunch, and the other six with the Cleveland Barons).

Deskins was signed by the Bombers at the middle of last season (after stints with ECHL Trenton and Arkansas) and totaled eight goals and 12 assists in 34 games played with the team. Deskins starred from 1997-2002 with the Miami (Ohio) University (NCAA) hockey program. He led the CCHA in goals (26 in 36 games) and was his team's MVP during the 1998-99 campaign.

Galbraith (pronounced GAL-brayth) enters his third season as a professional after playing five full campaigns with the Ottawa 67's of the Ontario Hockey League. Galbraith won the Memorial Cup, Canada's Major Junior Championship, in 1999 with the 67s and is Ottawa's all-time leader in games played (297) and penalty minutes (960). Last season, he notched five goals and four assists in just eight games with the Bombers after a four-player deal with the Augusta Lynx in late February, prompting a five-game recall to Syracuse (one assist, ten penalty minutes) shortly thereafter.

On Wednesday, the Bombers announced the details regarding their Opening Night Extravaganza at the Ervin J. Nutter Center October 18, 2003 versus the Cincinnati Cyclones (7:00 p.m.).

As part of the evening's slate of festivities, the Dayton Bombers will be giving away Bomber "Banger Sticks" to every fan in attendance, courtesy of Value City Furniture, Advance Auto Parts, Pontiac, and WTUE-FM.

Prior to the game, a "Tailgate Bash" will take place in the Nutter Center Parking Lot outside of Gate 3, featuring great music, food, beverages, and other prize-winning activities and fun.

In addition to the Bomber "Banger Stick" Promotional Giveaway, the first 5000 fans in attendance will also receive a Dayton Bombers' 2003-2004 Magnetic Schedule, compliments of TravelPlex, Trane Heating & Air Conditioning, and Two Men & A Truck.

The Dayton Bombers' game, Jamie Ling's debut as Head Coach, launches the team's 13th season in the ECHL- America's Premier AA Hockey League and is the first of 11 head-to-head clashes against the intrastate rival Cincinnati Cyclones. Five of the head-to-head meetings throughout the season will be played at the Ervin J. Nutter Center.

The Dayton Bombers' 2003-2004 Training Camp Schedule will kick off this Sunday with team physicals. All Dayton Bombers' practices during the camp are open to the public.
