Bakersfield Condors News Release

Bakersfield, Calif. – The Bakersfield Condors of the ECHL will open training camp 2003 this Saturday, with several events marked in the community calendar.

It begins tonight with the 2003-04 seasonal debut of "The Condors Coach's Show," with Head Coach Paul Kelly and "The Voice of the Condors," Kevin Bartl. The show airs every Thursday night from 6:00-7:00pm throughout the season on KGEO AM 1230, live from the Holiday Inn Select next to Centennial Garden. This week's debut show will be held poolside at the Holiday Inn Select, offering fans the first in-depth discussion about this season's team. Fans are encouraged to tune in, or come down and enjoy food and drink specials.

The annual Open House & Family Day takes place on Sunday, October 5th from 1:00-4:00pm at Centennial Garden. The event is free for anyone bringing a pair of canned food items to be donated to the Golden Empire Gleaners. Not only will this event mark the first chance for the public to see the team on the ice (the Condors will be on the ice scrimmaging for the fans from 1:00-2:30pm), but it's also the first day for season ticket holders to pick up their ticket packages. Individual game tickets for the Condors preseason match against the Las Vegas Wranglers on Saturday, October 11th, will also go on sale this day.

After the team scrimmage, fans are welcome to hit the ice and skate with the Condors from 3:00-5:00pm. The skate is free to anyone attending the Open House, and fans are welcome to bring their own skates, with limited rentals available for just $5.

On Monday, over 100 golfers will be swinging away for the Boys & Girls Club of Bakersfield in the 6th Annual Condors Charity Golf Invitational at Rio Bravo Country Club. Sponsored by KERN 1410, Chicago Title and A-Plus Plumbing, Heating and Air, the tournament begins with a shotgun start at 11:00am.

"I think these events truly represent the start of hockey season in CondorsTown," said Condors GM Chris Freshour. "The players are arriving, they're on the ice skating, the fans are coming by to get their tickets... This is an exciting time of year!

The Condors make their ECHL debut in just 15 days, on Friday, October 17th, hosting the Fresno Falcons Opening Night. Season ticket packages are available starting at just $48, and group outings are also available. For more information, contact the Condors office at 324-PUCK (7825), or visit the Condors office at Centennial Garden.
