January 2, 2004 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Providence Bruins News Release
The Providence Bruins announced today that veteran left wing Rob Zamuner has been assigned to the team by the Boston Bruins. He is expected to be in the P-Bruins' lineup this weekend. Zamuner had 3-3-6 totals and 10 PIM in 27 games with Boston.
Zamuner, a 6'3", 205-pound native of Oakville, Ontario, is playing in his 15th professional season, and is seeing his first action in the AHL since playing for the Binghamton Rangers in 1991-92. He has 44-111-155 totals and 92 PIM in 141 career AHL games, and 135-167-302 totals and 451 PIM in 741 career NHL games.
Zamuner, 34, was the New York Rangers' third pick, 45th overall, in the 1989 NHL Entry Draft. He began his professional career with the Rangers' IHL affiliate, the Flint Spirits, in 1989-90. He would go on to play for the Rangers' AHL affiliate in Binghamton in each of the next two seasons, but reached the NHL with New York by playing in nine games in 1991-92.
Zamuner signed as a free agent with the Tampa Bay Lightning in July, 1992, and went on to play seven seasons with the club, serving as captain in 1998-99. He entered this season as the franchise career leader in games played (475) and shorthanded goals (14), and third in overall points (200). He was traded to the Ottawa Senators in June, 1999, and played two seasons there before signing with Boston on July 6, 2001.
Zamuner also has international playing experience, having competed for Canada at the 1998 Winter Olympics. He also played for Canada in the 1997 and 1998 World Championships.
The P-Bruins hit the road for their next three games, beginning on Friday, January 2, when they face off with the Manchester Monarchs at 7:35 p.m. All the action will be broadcast live on WDDZ AM-550. The Bruins return home to host the Bridgeport Sound Tigers on Friday, January 16 at 7:05 p.m.
