
Crunch drop Bulldogs 3-2

HAMILTON, ON - The Bulldogs opened the 2004 calendar year with a tough 3-2 loss at the hands of the Syracuse Crunch. The Bulldogs record now stands at 21-13-4-1.
Syracuse opened the scoring late in the first period (16;00) with Joe Motzko firing home his seventh of the season. Shawn Limpright and Mark Hartigan collected the assists.
Hamilton battled back to tie the game a one a-piece with Alexander Svitov's seventh goal of the season, at 9:05 of the second perio . Svitov found some open space at the side of the Crunch net and fired a high wrist shot that met the back of the net. Alexander Perezhogin and Francois Beauchemin picked up assists on the powerplay marker.
Syracuse regained the lead just five minutes later when Donald MacLean netted his eighth goal of the season. Jamie Pushor earned the only assist.
Midway through the third period the Crunch tallied an insurance goal while on the powerplay. Brad Moran smacked home his ninth goal of the season (10:03) with assists going to Jeremy Reich and Don MacLean.
The Bulldogs fought hard and pulled within one with just 54 seconds remaining. With the net empty Alexander Perezhogin wristed a shot past Karl Goehring to cut the lead to 3-2. Alexander Svitov and Jozef Balej picked up assists.
Hamilton's valiant comeback attempt was put to rest with the stellar goaltending from Crunch goaltender Karl Goehring. Goehring earned his ninth victory of the season in steering aside 39 Bulldog shots. His record now stands at 9-3-4-1. J.F. Damphousse was also impressive in net, turning aside 27 Crunch shots in the loss. Damphousse's record now stands at 10-6-2.
On special teams, the Bulldogs were 1 for 6 on the power play while preventing 6 of 7 Crunch power plays.
The Hamilton Bulldogs next home action will take tomorrow Saturday, January 3rd as the Bulldogs will play host to divisional rival Toronto Roadrunners at Copps Coliseum.
