Derrick Walser Assigned to Syracuse

Syracuse, NY (January 2, 2004) – The Syracuse Crunch announced today that the Columbus Blue Jackets have assigned defenseman Derrick Walser to Syracuse and reassigned goaltender Andrew Penner to Dayton (ECHL). The team also announced today that they have signed left wing Shawn Limpright to a professional try-out contract.

Walser, 25, appeared in 27 games with Columbus this season, recording 1 goal, 8 assists and 22 penalty minutes. Last season Walser split time between Columbus (53 gp, 4g, 13a, 34 PIM's) and Syracuse (28 gp, 7g, 14a, 28 PIM's). A native of New Glasgow, Nova Scotia, Walser, was signed as a free agent by Columbus on September 12, 2001.

Penner, 21, did not appear in any games during his recall to Syracuse. In 16 games with Dayton, Penner posted a 6-7-0 record, 4.21 goals against average and .868 save percentage. A native of Scarborough, Ontario, Penner was signed as a free agent on September 17, 2001.

Limpright, 22, appeared in 27 games with Roanoke (ECHL) this season, recording 18 goals, 17 assists and 86 penalty minutes. A native of St. Adolphe, Manitoba, Limpright has tallied 32goals, 36 assists and 240 penalty minutes in 90 career games with Roanoke.

The Crunch travel to Hamilton tonight to play the Bulldogs in a 7 p.m. match-up.
