Minnesota recalls Michalek from Houston

SAINT PAUL/MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – Minnesota Wild General Manager Doug Risebrough announced today that the National Hockey League (NHL) club has recalled D Zbynek Michalek (pronounced ZBIGH-nehk, mih-KHAL-ihk) from the Houston Aeros of the American Hockey League (AHL), the team's primary development affiliate.

Michalek, 21 (12/23/82), recorded 10 points (3-7=10) in 35 games with Houston this season. The 6-foot-2, 199-pound defenseman has collected two power play goals, 12 penalty minutes and is one of three players to appear in every Aeros game this year. He collected 14 points (4-10=14) and 26 penalty minutes in his first professional season with Houston last year ranking third on the team with a +16 rating. Michalek totaled 90 points (26-64=90) and 106 penalty minutes in 137 games during two seasons (2000-02) with Shawinigan of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL).

The Jindrchuv Hradec, Czech Republic-native was signed as a free agent by Minnesota on September 29, 2001. He will wear jersey number 6.
