January 2, 2004 - American Hockey League (AHL) News Release
Owners of a winning streak for the first time all season, Norfolk can climb closer to a playoff spot with a win in Binghamton on Friday night (7:05 ET). The lowest-scoring team in the AHL, the Admirals strung together their first back-to-back W's of the year on Dec. 27 and 28, then made it three in a row with a win in Albany on New Year's Eve, with Pavel Vorobiev recording two goals and an assist. Ray Emery has allowed one goal in his last three starts for the Senators, twice shutting out league-leading Bridgeport in the last week.
Hershey continues its five-game road trip with three games in New England this weekend, starting in Hartford on Friday (7:05 ET), where the Wolf Pack are trying to snap a four-game losing streak and avoid dropping out of first place in the Atlantic Division for the first time since the morning of Oct. 24. On Saturday in Portland (7:05 ET), the Bears run into a Pirates team that is unbeaten in seven behind the torrid play of goalie Rastislav Stana, who has posted three shutouts during the streak. And Sunday, Hershey heads to Bridgeport to battle the Sound Tigers, who enter the weekend with a 10-point lead over the Bears atop the East Division.
San Antonio turns the page on a below-average December as Rochester visits the SBC Center on Friday night (7:00 CT, 8:00 ET). The Rampage were 3-6-1-0 last month and have struggled to find the net, with just 10 goals in their last seven games. Conversely, the Amerks were 26th in the league before lighting the lamp 20 times in their last six games, led by Domenic Pittis with 12 points in that stretch. Travis Scott has been in net for all 13 San Antonio wins this season, and ranks fourth in the AHL with a .937 save percentage.
In other action this weekend, the top two teams in the West Division face off on Friday (7:30 CT, 8:30 ET) as Grand Rapids visits Chicago... Toronto plays in a pair of nationally-televised contests, Friday night against St. John's on The Score and Saturday afternoon in Hamilton on Rogers Sportsnet... Springfield visits Wilkes-Barre/Scranton on Friday night (7:05 ET) for the first time since Nov. 15, 2000... After defeating Manchester on back-to-back nights to ring out 2003, Lowell visits the Monarchs again on Sunday afternoon (4:05 ET).
