Las Vegas Wranglers News Release

Las Vegas - Earning a point in the shootout loss, the Las Vegas Wranglers fell 2-1 to the Orlando Solar Bears tonight in the first of a two-game series.

Wranglers goaltender Joe Fallon and Solar Bears goaltender John Curry faced a low amount of shots through the first period, with Orlando outshooting Las Vegas 9-4. Plenty of back-and-forth action kept the shots from turning into goals, and the 0-0 game held until the first 19 seconds of the second period, when Solar Bears center C.J. Severyn put his team on the board for the one-goal lead. Midway through the period, almost exactly nine minutes later, Wranglers forward Andrew Sarauer returned the favor and knotted the game 1-1. A five-minute fighting major given to Solar Bears defenseman Mike Liambas gave the Wranglers an extended power play opportunity, but the team was unable to capitalize on it while outshooting Orlando 16-8.

Another scoreless period bookended the game, forcing the 1-1 contest into overtime for the second night in a row. Neither team was able to secure the win in the extra five minutes, but four shootout rounds awarded the 2-1 victory to the Solar Bears.

The two teams meet again tomorrow night as the 10th annual Teddy Bear Toss returns to Orleans Arena. When the Wranglers score their first goal of the night, fans are encouraged to bring new stuffed animals to throw on the ice in celebration, and the toys will benefit Sunrise Acres Elementary School. After the game, a live concert featuring swing musician Louis Prima, Jr., will take center ice. Tonight's full box score can be found here .
