Orlando Solar Bears News Release
Las Vegas, NV - C.J. Severyn scored his third goal in the last two games and G John Curry stopped all three shootout attempts he faced to help the Solar Bears to a 2-1 shootout victory over the Las Vegas Wranglers at Orleans Arena on Friday night.
After a scoreless opening frame, Orlando needed just 19 seconds to take the lead in the second period. F C.J. Severyn held a bouncing puck in the zone along the right boards, and blasted a slap shot inside the right goal post to give the Solar Bears a 1-0 lead. Las Vegas evened the score during 4-on-4 action. A slap shot from the blue line was gathered up by F Andrew Sarauer who slammed home the rebound at 9:20 and sent the game knotted up at 1-1 into the second intermission.
The score remained 1-1 through the third period forcing overtime. A scoreless overtime period led to a shootout, where LW Nick Petersen, Severyn, and F Olivier Fortier were able to score for Orlando while G John Curry turned aside all four Wranglers shooters to secure a 2-1 win. Curry has now stopped 20 of the 23 shootout shots he has faced this season.
