June 11, 2024 - International League (IL)
Worcester Red Sox News Release
BUFFALO, NY - The Worcester Red Sox (29-35) took a lead into the bottom of the eighth inning, but the Buffalo Bisons (33-31) used rallies in both the eighth and ninth innings to pull out a 3-2, walk-off victory on Tuesday night at Sahlen Field.
Trailing 2-1 with one out in the home half of the eighth, the Bisons tied the game thanks to an Orelvis Martinez run-scoring single. With two on and two out in the bottom of the ninth, Addison Barger legged out an infield single to second base. Cam Eden, the runner at second, never stopped running on the play, and after taking a turn at third base, he came in to score the game-winning run.
The WooSox were held in check until the sixth inning, when they scored twice to take the lead. With two outs and Nick Yorke at first base, Niko Kavadas hit a single to right field. Yorke advanced from first to third, and the throw from right field to third base from Steward Berroa bounced up the third-base line, allowing Yorke to score and Kavadas to move to second. Mickey Gasper drilled a double off the center-field fence to score Kavadas and put the WooSox in front 2-1.
Gasper finished the night 3-for-4. He is 5-for-10 with three walks and two RBI in three games with the WooSox.
Yorke went 2-for-3 with a walk and a run scored. In his first six Triple-A games, he is 9-for-22 with two homers, six RBI, and five walks.
Buffalo's first run came in the second inning when Brian Serven sprayed a single to right field that plated Riley Tirotta.
Making his fourth appearance as part of his big-league rehab assignment, Buffalo starter Yariel Rodriguez struck out 10 over four scoreless innings.
With a lead-off single in the first inning, Nick Sogard extended his on-base streak to 27 games, the second-longest active on-base streak in the International League.
In his 11th start of the season, Grant Gambrell went five innings allowing one run on two hits. The right-hander walked three and struck out a batter. It was the eighth time this season that Gambrell has gone at least five innings in an outing.
The WooSox and Bisons continue their six-game series tomorrow at 6:35 p.m. Justin Hagenman is the scheduled starter for Worcester. Radio coverage begins at 6:15 p.m. on 98.9 Nash Icon, 100.1 FM The Pike, and the rest of the WooSox Radio Network.
