Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders News Release

(ROCHESTER, NY)- The Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders shut out the Rochester Red Wings 10-0 in the series opener. Four arms combined to allow just two-hits, while the hitters recorded a season-high 16 hits. The team is four games out of first place in the International League.

The RailRiders had the bats moving early and often in the series opener against the Nationals #15 prospect Jackson Rutledge (L, 2-4).

Jorbit Vivas walked to begin the ballgame and Oswald Peraza followed with a single to put him in scoring position. A ground ball off the bat of Jasson Domínguez plated the first run of the game.

In the second inning, the RailRiders set themselves apart. T.J. Rumfield led off with a hit while Jeter Downs and Vivas walked to load the bases. Peraza smoked the team's first grand slam of the season for a 5-0 advantage.

The visitors added another four-spot in the fifth frame. Domínguez and Ben Rice recorded back-to-back knocks to get aboard. Then the RailRiders had four consecutive singles that each drove in a run. Rumfield had his third hit and three others recorded their first hit of the night.

Meanwhile Yoendrys Gómez (W, 2-2) was sharp on the other side of the ball. He went five and a third allowing just one hit and three walks. He struck out four in his deepest outing of the season. Duane Underwood, Jr. finished out the sixth stranding two and had a clean seventh.

In the seventh, Rumfield launched the RailRiders second homer of the night, a solo shot to right center. It gave SWB a 10-0 lead.

Art Warren allowed just one hit in his 1.1 innings and Phil Bickford slammed the door shut in the ninth inning. It was the fewest hits allowed by the staff this season and the first two-hitter thrown since September 24, 2023. It was also SWB's sixth shutout victory of the summer.

Scranton/Wilkes-Barre continues their series against Rochester on Wednesday at Innovative Field. The RailRiders' Josh Maciejewski will face the Red Wings' Andrew Alvarez with a 1:05PM first pitch. SWB returns home to PNC Field on June 18 to face Buffalo. Tickets are available www.swbrailriders.com.
