June 11, 2024 - International League (IL)
Toledo Mud Hens News Release
The Mud Hens triumphed over the Omaha Storm Chasers tonight with a decisive 10-3 victory.
The game began at 7:05 PM, with high intensity from the start. Keider Montero delivered two crucial strikeouts when the bases were loaded with zero outs. Parker Meadows deftly caught a pop fly to center field, saving the first half.
In the bottom of the first, Meadows reached first base with a solid hit to center field. Spencer Torkelson was hit by a pitch, and Dillon Dingler walked, loading the bases. Bligh Madris then walked, bringing in the first run. Eddys Leonard also walked, adding another run for a two-run lead.
The second inning was swift, with the Storm Chasers going down 1-2-3, extending their losing streak to three games. After a double play, Andrew Navigato scored, followed by a home run from Jace Jung, his tenth of the season. The ball soared past right field, delighting the crowd, especially the puppies in attendance.
In the bottom of the fourth, Justice Bigbie started with a double, and Navigato's single brought Bigbie home. Meadows singled and stole second base, and Torkelson's grounder to center field allowed Navigato and Meadows to score, increasing the lead. Jung walked, but a double play ended the inning with Dingler at bat.
At the bottom of the fifth, Bigbie walked, and Navigato's line drive to right field sent Bigbie to third. Despite two outs, the Mud Hens' lead remained strong. Navigato stole second, but the inning ended without additional runs.
Brenan Hanifee replaced Montero after five solid innings, achieving two strikeouts. Torkelson walked, and Jung hit another home run, sending the ball to right field, where a fan caught it. The Mud Hens were now leading by eight.
In the eighth inning, Alex Lange took over for Hanifee, securing a strikeout and a catch by Meadows in center field. After walks by Meadows and Jung, Dingler singled, loading the bases. Ryan Vilade hit a line drive in the gap, bringing in Meadows and maintaining the eight-run lead.
The ninth inning saw Lange strike out a Storm Chaser. A pop fly to Bigbie in right field was caught, and Navigato's throw to Torkelson for the final out sealed the victory for the Mud Hens.
The Mud Hens will face the Storm Chasers again tomorrow night in T-Town at 7:05 PM.
