Wolves Slip Past Heat

February 5, 2010 - American Hockey League (AHL) - Abbotsford Heat News Release

Abbotsford, BC - The Abbotsford Heat lost to the Chicago Wolves 3-2 in the only game in the AHL tonight from the Abbotsford Entertainment & Sports Centre.

Both combatants were able to tally on the power play with the Wolves drawing first blood at 5:12 mark of the first period while Abbotsford newly acquired forward Evan Barlow was in the box. The Heat drew even to start the second period with a power play tally of their own as Staffan Kronwall fired a bullet from the point that beat AHL goalie of the month Peter Mannino glove hand side. New comer Josh Barlow drew an assist on the play with a sweet feed back to the point where Kronwall was able to step into the shot. Tim Stapleton gave the visitors back the lead just 23 seconds later, increasing his personal point streak to 11 as he took a feed from Matt Anderson and beat Shantz with a one timer glove side. Josh Meyers was able to pull the Heat even before the 2nd frame was through; Meyers scored his 3rd goal of the year on the power play. Meyers was the beneficiary of a great pass from Kronwall once again, but all five Heat players touched the puck on the PP before Meyers hammered his shot past Mannino, blocker side under the crossbar.

But with only 98 seconds to go in the third period Matt Anderson scored on his own rebound to extend the Heat winless streak to six games (0-5-1). The HEAT will look to turn things around Friday night against the Wolves in a rematch at the Abbotsford Entertainment and Sports Centre. Puck drops on all the action at 7:30 pm. Catch all the action live on Country 107.1, starting with the HONDA WAY PREGAME SHOW at 7 pm.
