Fort Wayne, IN - The Dragons came into Fort Wayne to face the hottest team in the Midwest League. After dropping their first two of the second half, the Wizards have now won six in a row, taking out the Dragons 5-1 in game one of the four game series at Memorial Stadium.

The Wizards took the early lead against Dragons starter Anthony Gressick (LP, 2-6) in the bottom of the first inning. Gressick struggled with his control early, loading the bases on two walks and a hit batsman. Sam Carter followed with a two RBI single to center, and Fort Wayne led 2-0.

Gressick showed better control in the second, but Fort Wayne was able to get two more runs. Michael Campbell singled to begin the frame and scored two outs later on a triple from Javis Diaz. Diaz scored the second run of the inning on an infield single from Tom King, and the Wizards opened up a 4-0 lead. Gressick turned in 5.0 innings, allowing just one more hit the rest of the way.

Dayton finally got to Wizards starter Nathan Culp (WP, 8-3) for a run in the top of the sixth inning. Drew Stubbs began the inning with a single and stole second base. Stubbs went to third on a groundout from Justin Turner and scored on a groundout by Chris Valaika. It was Valaika's 55th RBI of the season, putting the Dragons on the board, trailing 4-1.

That would be the only run the Dragons managed on the night, as Culp went 7.0 innings, allowing six hits. Culp struck out five and didn't walk a batter. Fort Wayne added a run with a Cedric Hunter home run in the bottom of the eighth inning, and Roberto Valdez (ND) and Wilton Lopez (ND) combined for the final six outs to preserve the victory.

The Dragons and Wizards continue the four game series at Memorial Stadium with game two beginning 7:00 PM Saturday evening. The Dragons will send RHP Rafael Gonzalez (9-2, 2.58 ERA) to the hill, while the Wizards counter with RHP Drew Miller (1-2, 3.00 ERA). 1410 ESPN Radio will carry the game live beginning with the Dragons Magazine at 6:00 PM, followed by the Dragons Pre Game Show at 6:30 PM. The game will also be streamed live on the internet via All-In Broadcasting at www.daytondragons.com.
