Norfolk Admirals News Release

For the second time this season, the Admirals forced the top team in the league to overtime but came up short as Wilkes-Barre topped Norfolk in overtime 3-2.

The Admirals picked up the lead first in the opening frame. Mark Cullen dished the puck to Dustin Byfuglien at the Wilkes-Barre blue line to the left of Penguins goalie Dany Sabourin. Byfuglien sent a wrist shot from the face-off dot that beat Sabourin high at 12:19. Wilkes-Barre answered two minutes later as Colby Armstrong got the puck past Admirals netminder Adam Munro on the power play at 14:42. But the Admirals had the final say in the first period. Colin Fraser found Cullen at center ice while Norfolk was shorthanded. Cullen sent a shot that hit Sabourin and trickled into the goal with 1:01 left in the period. The Admirals took a 2-1 lead into the second period.

Wilkes-Barre tied the game in the early stages of the middle stanza. Jonathan Filewich deflected a Guillaume Lefebvre shot past Munro at 2:28. Going into the third period, the game was tied at two goals apiece.

The Admirals controlled much of the play in the last half of the third period, firing a total of 13 pucks on Sabourin as opposed to the Penguins' six. However, neither team dented the twine, and the match would require overtime.

Filewich found the back of the net again in the third minute of overtime, deflecting a Rob Scuderi feed past Munro to win the game for the visitors at 2:57.

Adam Munro made 25 saves on 28 shots and was saddled with the loss. Dany Sabourin stopped 35 of 37 Admirals' shots and picked up the win for Wilkes-Barre.

Norfolk was 1-6 on the power play while Wilkes-Barre/Scranton was 0-5
