Canucks Acquire Ouellet from Capitals

The Vancouver Canucks, the NHL affiliate of the Manitoba Moose, announced the Canucks have acquired goaltender Maxime Ouellet from the Washington Capitals in exchange for a fifth-round draft choice in 2006. Ouellet will report directly to the Moose.

Ouellet, 24, has played in one game so far this season with the Hershey Bears. In 2004-05, the Beauport, PQ native appeared in 40 games with the Portland Pirates, compiling a 2.89 goals against average and a save percentage of .911 while going 15-20-3. In his American Hockey League career with the Philadelphia Phantoms and Portland, Ouellet is 57-61-23 in 150 games with a goals against average of 2.39 and a save percentage of .924. In 2003, Ouellet was selected to the AHL Canadian All-Star Team was named an AHL Second Team All-Star at the end of year.

Ouellet has also appeared in eight games in the National Hockey League with Washington and Philadelphia. He has a 2.99 goals against average and a save percentage of .908 with a record of 2-4-1.

Ouellet was originally Philadelphia's first choice, 22nd overall, in the 1999 NHL Entry Draft.
