Monsters Blanked by Bridgeport

Albany Devils News Release
Lowell, Mass. - Wade Dubielwicz and Chris Madden combined for a 30-save shutout for the Bridgeport Sound Tigers (9-11-2-0) in a 4-0 victory over the Lowell Lock Monsters (10-10-1-2) at Tsongas Arena on Friday night.
Both teams had their opportunities in the opening frame, starting with Keith Aucoin hitting the post on his first shift of the contest. The Monsters appeared to take the 1-0 lead late in the first period, but a penalty for goaltender interference negated the would-be tally for D P.J. Martin. Meanwhile, there were seven combined power plays in the period, and it was on the man advantage that Bridgeport took the lead. David Masse chipped in a rebound with just 1:15 left in the frame to make it 1-0 after one.
After Bruno Gervais made it 2-0 early in the second period, the Sound Tigers chased G Kevin Nastiuk with a wrister from Matt Koalska at 8:34. Nastiuk stopped 11 of 14 shots he faced. It was the second goalie change of the game, as Bridgeport G Chris Madden did not return to start the second stanza, after stopping 15 shots in the first. Lowell was outshot 9-4 in the period but still led in shots, 19-18 overall after 40 minutes.
Bridgeport added their fourth of the game by Wyatt Smith with just over six minutes remaining in the contest, while Lowell failed to get on the board for the first time all season. Sean Bergenheim from the Tigers was awarded a penalty shot in the final minutes, but failed to extend the lead. The Lock Monsters outshot Bridgeport 30-24 in the game, but suffered the 4-0 defeat.
The Lock Monsters host the Providence Bruins on Saturday night at 7:35 p.m. That night is the annual Teddy Bear Toss, sponsored by Lowell General Hospital. Everyone is asked to bring a new Teddy Bear or other stuffed animal to the game, and when the Monsters score their first goal of the night, throw the animals on the ice. The teddy bears will be donated to the Pediatric Unit and other local charities.
