Macon Whoopee News Release
THE WEEK AHEAD
Friday vs. Augusta 7:35pm
Coverage begins at 7:20pm on Classic Hits Rock 92.3
The Whoopee finishes its season series with the Lynx hoping to break a four-game losing streak against Augusta. Macon had won the first three meetings. This is the fourth game between the in-state rivals this month! Augusta comes off an 0-3 weekend that severely damaged its playoff hopes. The Lynx are in 6th place, five points behind South Carolina and Florida for the final two postseason spots. The Lynx hope this game still has playoff implications.
Saturday vs. Columbus 7:35pm
Coverage begins at 7:20pm on Classic Hits Rock 92.3
Macon wraps up their inaugural ECHL regular season by playing the Cottonmouths for the 10th time. The Whoopee is 5-2-2 against Columbus, though only 0-2-1 in the last three games. Macon is 3-1 against Columbus at the Centreplex.
LAST WEEK
The Whoopee went 1-2-1, losing in overtime at Columbus, shut out at home by Pee Dee, breaking the winless streak at Mobile, then losing at Pensacola.
Tuesday 3/19 Columbus 4 MACON 3 (OT)
In Columbus, Sean McAslan scored on a breakaway with only :25 remaining in overtime to win it for the Cottonmouths. Macon led 2-0 after two periods on goals by Casey Kesselring and David Brosseau. Columbus tied the score early in the third before Whoopee Johan Olsson took a pretty feed from Kesselring (who had a three point night with a goal and two assists) and scored to put Macon back on top at 10:51. Nick Lent tied it at 3-3 at the 15:45 mark, sending the game to overtime. Whoopee G Evan Lindsay stopped 24 shots in the defeat, as Macon's winless streak stretches to 12 games (0-8-4).
Wednesday 3/20 Pee Dee 3 MACON 0
In Macon, Pride netminder JR Prestifillipo stopped all 19 shots, and Dany Bousquet's first period goal held up until Pee Dee added two goals late in the third to ice it. Bousquet finished with a pair of tallies. Whoopee G Chris Madden made 36 saves. Macon's winless streak is now 13 games (0-9-4), and the Whoopee is officially eliminated from the playoff race.
Friday 3/22 MACON 2 Mobile 0
In Mobile, the winless streak ends at 13 as G Evan Lindsay stops all 48 Mysticks shots to earn his first professional shutout. Aniket Dhadphale scored in the first period, and Jason Stewart added an empty-netter with :11 to play. It's Macon's third shutout, and all three were by the score of 2-0. It's also the Whoopee's first win since 2/15.
Saturday 3/23 Pensacola 5 Macon 3
In Pensacola, the Ice Pilots clinch a playoff berth by defeating the Whoopee for the first time in three tries. Casey Kesselring's shorthanded goal for Macon tied the game at 2-2 after one period. Pensacola then scored the next three goals, two by Dean Tiltgen, before David Brosseau made it 5-3. Macon starting goaltender Chris Madden reinjured his left knee in the first period and was replaced by Evan Lindsay, who pulled a groin muscle in the third period. Lindsay, in obvious pain and with limited mobility, hung in before Madden re-entered the contest.
