White, 'Pen Lead Bisons in Series Finale Win

August 29, 2021 - International League (IL)
Buffalo Bisons News Release

Tyler White had three hits, including the go-ahead two-run homer in the sixth inning, to pace Buffalo to a 9-5 victory over Worcester Sunday afternoon at Sahlen Field.

The Bisons got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the opening frame, when White stroked a ball into centerfield, plating Otto Lopez.

Worcester's offense came alive in the very next inning in a big way, when they sent all nine batters up to the plate. With the bases loaded and one out, Connor Wong hit a bases clearing double. Joey Meneses, the very next batter, doubled to trade places with Wong and make it a 4-1 game.

The WooSox weren't done in the inning yet, as Josh Ockimey connected on a two-out pitch, doubling home Meneses to put Worcester up by four.

The five-run frame ended Bisons starter Nick Allgeyer's day, who surrendered the runs on five hits, one walk and a hit by pitch.

Early runs in the contest continued when the Herd began the third with three straight hits.

Hit number three of the frame was Richard Urena's 22nd double of the season. White scored with ease on the ball into the left-field corner, and Danny Jansen tested his hamstring once again, scoring all the way from first. Cullen Large cut the WooSox lead to just one with a base hit up the middle to plate Urena.

The Bisons retook the lead in the sixth when White connected on his third hit of the day, a two-run blast into the left field netting.

White appeared in all six games during the series, reaching base in each contest. Against WooSox pitching, the righty hitter had nine hits in 20 at-bats, driving in six.

In the seventh inning, Kellin Deglan added insurance to solidify Buffalo's win with a three-run shot just to the right of the bullpens.

Dany Jimenez was the first of six relievers out of the Buffalo bullpen in the win. Jimenez tossed two innings of work, fanning a season-high five batters.

The 'pen nearly stopped the WooSox bats in their tracks, yielding just two hits, while striking out ten overall in seven innings of scoreless baseball.

Following their scheduled off day Monday, the Bisons will travel to Moosic, Pa., where they will square off with the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Railriders for an eight-game series. Doubleheaders are slated for Tuesday and Saturday during the week. The first pitch of game one on Tuesday is set for 5:05 p.m.
