Wheeling Nailers News Release

Cincinnati, OH - The Wheeling Nailers (4-6-0) swept their weekend series with the Cincinnati Cyclones (4-6-0) with a 2-1 win on Saturday night at US Bank Arena. Joe Guenther scored two goals in a 2:02 span late in the third to turn a one-goal deficit into a one-goal lead. Andy Franck stopped 51 shots on net including 22 in the final period.

Although there were a combined total of 52 shots through the first two periods, the game was still scoreless when the third period began. Sean Collins was called for hooking at 10:34 of the third period giving the Cyclones a power-play opportunity. Cincinnati capitalized as Matt McDonald's shot from the point was deflected home by Dave Borelli.

Just 1:11 later, Joe Guenther gloved down an airborne puck in the slot and slid it past Cedrick Desjardins to even the score at one. Guenther notched the game winner, his fifth of the year, on his very next shift at the 14:41 mark of the third period. Tim Wallace took a feed from Curtis Patrick but his shot went wide of the net. Guenther took the bounce off the end boards and banked it in off Desjardins' glove from right along the goal line.

The Nailers were one for seven on the power play while they killed off 10 of the 11 Cyclone advantages. Wheeling has now won three games in a row and play next Friday in Johnstown, where they are winless in two games.

Wheeling will visit Cincinnati again next Saturday night before returning home on Wednesday, Nov. 22 at 7:00pm. It will be Steelers Night as the Nailers welcome Super Bowl Champions Jeff Reed and Bryant McFadden to the arena for their game with the Trenton Titans.
