Ice Dogs win in overtime

LONG BEACH, Calif. - Mark Hurtubise recorded a hat trick and Chris Collins scored two goals including the overtime game winning goal at 2:25 on the power play and the Ice Dogs defeated the Las Vegas Wranglers 7-6 in front of 1,884 at the Long Beach Arena on Sunday night.

Las Vegas jumped out to a 3-0 lead 17:40 into the first period with goals by former Ice Dog Lucas Lawson, Marco Peluso and Shawn Limpright. Mark Hurtubise got the Ice Dogs on the board at 17:53 with the first of three goals and four points. Vegas had a 3-1 lead heading into the first intermission and it was the third straight game the Ice Dogs trailed by two after twenty minutes.

The Ice Dogs would tie it at three 9:00 into the second period with goals by Ash Goldie and Chris Collins and outscored Vegas 3-1 in the middle frame to head into the second intermission tied at 4-4.

The Ice Dogs would take a two goal lead 9:19 into the third period after Hurtubise connected on his third goal of the game and Schwartz scored his second goal of the year as the Ice Dogs were poised for their second win of the season. But it wasn't going to be easy. With goaltender Mike McKenna pulled for the extra attacker, defenseman Ryan Bonni cut the lead at 6-5 with his first goal of the year. With new comer Cam Abbott in the box for the Dogs and McKenna off for the extra attacker again, defenseman Jason Jozsa tied the game at six with his fourth of the year with 10 seconds remaining.

In overtime, Las Vegas forward Adam Cracknell was whistled for elbowing, giving the Ice Dogs a 4 on 3 man advantage. Chris Collins redeflected a shot on the top of the crease from Gabriel Proulx giving the Ice Dogs a wild 7-6 overtime win. It was the second goal of the game for Collins and sent the Ice Dogs bench and fans into celebration.

Notes: The Ice Dogs went 2-11 on the PP, the Wranglers 2-7. T.J. Trevelyan has a 9 game point streak with 7g-6a-13 points over that span. Gabriel Proulx extended his point streak to 6 games with 2g-7a-9 points. Goaltender Jeff Weber won his first game of the season in six tries stopping 18 of 24 shots. Erik Hokom of Thousand Oaks, CA was signed before the game as an emergency goaltender as Mike Brown was recalled by Boston. Cam Abbott skated in his first game for the Ice Dogs after playing two games for Stockton. Defenseman David Walker did not play as he was serving a one game suspension for his actions against Phoenix on Saturday night. Ice Dog fan Martin Refner won $800 after Mark Hurtubise scored his third goal of the game during the "Golden Sombrero" promotion.
