Augusta Lynx News Release

North Charleston, SC - Mike Erickson scored the game-winning goal and added an assist as the Augusta Lynx downed the South Carolina Stingrays 2-1 on Sunday evening.

All goals were scored in the first period, with Jarrett Konkle leading off the contest with his third of the year at 3:58 to give South Carolina a 1-0 advantage.

Ryan Lang followed with a breakaway goal at 11:20 to even the contest at 1-1. Nick Van Herpt threaded a perfect lead pass to Lang as he went streaking through the neutral zone to spring him for the goal. Erickson also nabbed an assist on the play.

Just under three minutes later, Erickson would slam home a one-timer from the low slot during an Augusta power play for the game winner. Jamie Johnson's feed was right on Erickson's tape from behind the net, catching rookie netminder Daren Machesney off guard. With the assist, Johnson now has points in all nine games he has played in this year.

After the opening frame both teams would come close but neither would be able to find the net again. What appeared to be a late empty-net goal for Augusta was waived off due to an offside call at the South Carolina blue line with time winding down in the third period.

Lynx goalie Dave McKee earned his sixth win of the year with 27 saves while Machesney took the loss with 14 stops. Augusta finished the game 1-for-4 on the power play and South Carolina went 0-for-6.

After a day off Monday, Augusta will return to the North Charleston Coliseum on Tuesday to face the Stingrays once again before embarking on a two-game swing to Texas against the Wildcatters Friday and Saturday. Game coverage begins one half-hour before faceoff with the Classic Stucco and Stone Pre-Game Show on your Home for Lynx Hockey, NEWSTALKSPORTS 1630.
