Fresno Falcons News Release
Victoria, British Columbia - The Victoria Salmon Kings scored three third period goals to come from behind and defeat the Fresno Falcons 4-3 on Sunday afternoon in front of 3,723 fans at Save-on-Foods Memorial Centre.
Fresno took a 1-0 lead into the locker room after one period courtesy of a power-play goal at the 19:04 mark. John Morlang's shot was stopped by goaltender Julian Ellis, but the rebound sat free in the crease and Brady Leisenring was able to get his stick on the puck, sliding it into the net for his team leading fifth goal of the season.
The Salmon Kings pulled even with a power-play goal of their own 1:57 into the second period. Mike Stutzel skated across the Falcons blue line and fed a drop pass for Kiel McLeod who blasted a slap shot past Ryan MacDonald for his eighth goal of the season.
Fresno retook the lead with a shorthanded goal at 19:47 of the second. Luke Curtin skated into the Victoria end and fed Rob McFeeters in the left-wing circle who beat Ellis with a quick wrist shot for his third goal of the year.
Victoria tied the game with a shorthanded goal 1:55 into the final period. Wes Goldie gathered in a loose puck at his own blue line, and skated all alone into the Fresno end, beating MacDonald with a wrister for his fifth goal of the season.
The Salmon Kings took their first lead of the game at the 6:33 mark. Adam Taylor won a face off to Gustav Engman at the left point, and the Victoria defenseman blasted a slap shot past MacDonald for his second goal of the season.
Fresno's second shorthanded goal of the night, and ninth of the season, tied the game at three at 11:38. John Wroblewski fed the puck to Josh Prudden, and beat Ellis with a shot from the left-wing circle.
Victoria regained the lead at 15:34 as Goldie took a centering feed from David Wrigley and one-timed a shot past MacDonald from the hash marks for his second of the night.
Fresno pulled MacDonald with 1:30 to go, but could not get the equalizer past Ellis.
