South Carolina Stingrays News Release
NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. - The Augusta Lynx stopped the South Carolina Stingrays four-game win streak with a 2-1 victory before 3,596 at the North Charleston Coliseum.
"I liked our effort but we just didn't get the result that I was hoping for," South Carolina coach Jason Fitzsimmons said. "The guys left all their energy on the ice after a tough travel schedule. Machesney came in made some key saves especially in the third. We'll get another crack at Augusta at home on Tuesday."
South Carolina (7-4-0, 14 points) opened the score at the 3:58 mark of the first period. Jarrett Konkle took a lead pass from Bryson Busniuk, who was re-signed earlier in the day on his 27th birthday, and Konkle beat Dave McKee for his third goal of season.
Augusta (6-5-0, 12 points) bounced back to tie the score at 1-1. Ryan Lang broke in all alone and slid the puck by Daren Machesney for his team-leading seventh goal of the campaign. Nick Van Herpt and Mike Erickson collected assists.
Erickson gave the Lynx a 2-1 lead by connecting on a pass from Jamie Johnson on the power play at 14:12 of the first. Joe Cardarelli also collected a helper on the goal.
In the waning moments of the third period, the Stingrays pulled Machesney for the extra attacker, but were unable to net the equalizer.
South Carolina failed to convert on six power play opportunities, while Augusta went 1-for-4 on the man advantage. Stingrays outshot the Lynx 28-16.
The Stingrays next game is at home at 7:05 p.m. on Tuesday against Augusta at the North Charleston Coliseum. It's Firehouse Bar and Grill Night consisting of a $10 ticket in any section, $2 beers and 2-for-1 hotdogs.
