Wheat Kings Slip Past Hitmen

Brandon, MB- The Calgary Hitmen closed out their three-game East Division road trip tonight in Brandon against the Wheat Kings.

Chase Valliant opened up the scoring with his first career western hockey league goal to give Calgary a one goal lead heading into the second period. The two teams traded power plays in the second but the period remained scoreless until a power play goal from Carter Yakemchuk for his eighth of the season. With under two minutes to go in the second, Evan Groening got Brandon on the board to cut the lead in half. Brandon took the lead early in the third period with back-to-back goals from Brett Hyland and Dawson Pasternak. Brandon was able to hold of the push from Calgary in the second half of the period, winning the contest 3-2.

Calgary has two games left in this stretch of five straight road games with upcoming stops in Lethbridge on Wednesday, Feb. 15 and Edmonton on Saturday, Feb. 18. Calgary will then open a five-game homestand on Sunday, Feb. 19 against the Kamloops Blazers at Seven Chiefs Sportsplex. Game time is 2:00 p.m.
