Medicine Hat Tigers News Release
Medicine Hat, AB - It took seven rounds of a shootout but Tigers forward Shane Smith (Cessford, AB) would be the only goal scorer in Medicine Hat's 3-2 win over the Lethbridge Hurricanes Saturday Night at Co-op Place.
The opening period saw a quick start for the Orange & Black as Rhett Parsons (Cremona, AB) would open the scoring just 54 second into the game on a point shot beating a screened Harrison Meneghin for the 1-0 Tiger lead. Dru Krebs (Okotoks, AB) & Andrew Basha (Calgary, AB) would orchestrate that opening goal. But the Hurricanes got their legs and a pair of man advantages and they'd make paydirt on a net front scramble as Jett Jones would ram home his 18th of the season tying the game at 1-1 at 7:46. But 3:10 later Brenden Lee (Seattle, WA) would wire home a snap shot past Meneghin to help the Tigers regain the lead of 2-1. Shane Smith (Cessford, AB) would help spring Lee on that 2 on 1 with Tigers captain Owen MacNeil (Calgary, AB). Tigers outshoot the Hurricanes 12-11 in the opening 20 and keeping their one goal lead into the 2nd period.
A tight second period would see plenty of ups and downs for the Tigers creating opportunities but a tough break on an ineligible player penalty to Brayden Boehm (Nanaimo, BC) would end up costing the Tigers with a point shot from Joe Arntsen on the fifth power play of the night for Lethbridge which would make it a 2-2 game at 13:07. The Hurricanes would outshoot the Tigers 11-6 in the period heading to the third.
In the third period it was a stalemate between the Hurricanes and Tigers with Medicine Hat carrying a late power play that lead over into overtime where nothing would be solved and it came down to a seven shooter shootout and the Tigers finally solve Hurricanes start Harrison Meneghin giving the Tigers that all important extra point, while Tigers starter Beckett Langkow was a perfect 7/7 when facing the Hurricane shooters.
With the win the Tigers are back to .500 with a 22-22-7-1 record and sit in the 8th spot in the Eastern Playoff Conference playoff race.
Next up for the Tigers is another home meeting against the Red Deer Rebels, Saturday, February 18.
