Wheat Kings Come Back To Defeat Hitmen Saturday

Brandon Wheat Kings News Release
BRANDON M.B. - The Brandon Wheat Kings erase a 2 goal deficit to win 3-2 over the Calgary Hitmen Saturday. The win would secure the season series for the Wheat Kings 3-1.
The Hitmen got off to a great start with an unlikely source getting on the scoresheet. AP call up Chase Valliant drove the net, Carson Bjarnason made one stop but the rebound went right back to the stick of Valliant allowing him to score his 1st WHL goal to make it 1-0 Wheat Kings. The Wheat Kings would have a pair of powerplay opportunities but were unable to cash in with Brayden Peters making a couple big saves.
The Calgary Hitmen would go on the powerplay near the midway mark of period two with Carter Yakemchuk firing a point shot through traffic beating Bjarnason to extend the Hitmen lead to 2-0. Late in the 2nd period the Wheat Kings 4th line would go to work with Andrei Malyavin's shot getting redirected off the stick of Evan Groening and in to cut the Hitmen lead in half heading into the 3rd.
The Wheat Kings record whe trailing after 40 minute was 0-17-2. It turned out that the Groening goal was a momentum shifter for the Wheat Kings as the top line took over the remainder of the hockey game. Only two minutes in, Dawson Pasternak would spring Brett Hyland loose allowing Hyland to walk in and score to tie the game up at two. Then Hyland and Danielson would find Pasternak alone in the slot on their next shift giving Pasternak his 9th of the year and second goal in as many games to give the Wheat Kings their first lead of the hockey game. The Wheat Kings would hold on to win 3-2 in regulation.

The Wheat Kings are back in action next Tuesday night when they host the Swift Current Broncos. Puck drop at 7:00pm from Westoba Place in Brandon. It's also Ladies Night presented by Hockey Gives Blood. Tickets available at the Keystone Box Office or online.
