
Strong Second Periods Lifts Pats To 8-4 Victory Over Warriors

Regina, Sask. - The Regina Pats scored four in the second period, lifting the club to a 8-4 comeback victory over the Moose Jaw Warriors on Saturday in front of a third straight sellout at the Brandt Centre.
The Pats trailed 3-1 early in the second period before countering with four goals in the second stanza and three more in the third for their 25th victory of the season and their 10th comeback win of the year. From the opening two minutes of the second period until the end of the contest, the Pats outscored the Warriors 7-1. Six different players scored for Regina in the victory as well, as Connor Bedard (3G-2A), Borya Valis (1G-2A), Tye Spencer, Tanner Howe, Alexander Suzdalev (1G-1A) and Zane Rowan found the back of the net while Drew Sim made 39 saves for his 21st win of the season.
For the Warriors, they got a two-goal performance from Martin Rysavy and singles from Brayden Yager and Eric Alarie. Jackson Unger fell to 1-5 lifetime against the Pats, allowing eight goals on 27 shots.
Tonight's victory was also John Paddock's 200th win as coach of the Pats. He is fourth in franchise history in coach wins, which is two wins from tying Frank Mario for third on the all-time Pats wins list.
THE GOALS
First Period
MJ 0-1 at 14:50 - Brayden Yager (22), penalty shot // Yager was awarded a penalty shot and beat Sim with a slow dangle and shot along the ice.
MJ 0-2 at 17:23 - Mattin Rysavy (5), assisted by Beayden Yager // Rysavy broke in down the right wing, and let a wrist shot go from the edge of the circle that beat Sim to the far side to give the Warriors a 2-0 lead late in the opening stanza.
REG 1-2 at 18:43 - Connor Bedard (46), assisted by Luke Bateman and Borya Valis // Bedard skated into the Warriors zone and as he was being stick checked, ripped a shot high glove-side past Unger to get the Pats on the board, now trailing 2-1 before the end of the first period.
Second Period
MJ 1-3 at 49 seconds- Eric Alarie (16), assisted by Denton Mateychuk and Ryder Korczak (PP) // With an early powerplay, Sim stopped a long shot but he kicked the rebound to Alarie who put it past the sprawling Pats netminder to extend the lead to 3-1.
REG 2-3 at 1:45 - Tye Spencer (8), assisted by Zack Stringer // A turnover in the Warriors zone allowed Stringer to set up Spencer in the slot who put a wrist shot past Unger to get the Pats to within one at 3-2.
REG 3-3 at 3:55 - Alexander Suzdalev (28), assisted by Stanislav Svozil and Braxton Whitehead // Svozil sent a cross-ice pass from deep in the Warriors zone to Suzdalev who ripped a laser short-side past Unger to tie the game up at 3-3.
REG 4-3 at 6:50 - Zane Rowan (3), assisted by Jaxsin Vaughan // The Pats forced a turnover in the Warriors zone and Jaxin Vaughan sent a perfect backhand pass to Rowan who made no mistake depositing the puck past Unger to give the Pats their first lead of the game at 4-3.
MJ 4-4 at 15:15 - Martin Rysavy (6), assisted by Robert Baco and Atley Calvert // Sim stopped the first shot but could not corral the rebound and Rysavy was there to chip the puck past Sim to tie the game up at 4-4.
REG 5-4 at 18:08 - Borya Valis (18), assisted by Connor Bedard and Tanner Howe // Bedard put a pass in front to Valis who showed nice patience, stretched out, and tucked the puck past Unger to restore the Pats' one-goal lead at 5-4 late in the second period.
Third Period
REG 6-4 at 3:56 - Connor Bedard (47), assisted by Alexander Suzdalev // Bedard skated into the slot and fired a wrister over Unger's shoulder to extend the Pats' lead to a pair at 6-4.
REG 7-4 at 11:17 - Connor Bedard (48), assisted by Borya Valis and Luke Bateman // The Pats broke in on an odd-man rush and Valis threw the puck toward the Warriors net where the puck deflected off a body and past Unger. Bedard got credit and the Pats had a three-goal lead at 7-4.
REG 8-4 at 17:42 - Tanner Howe (24), assisted by Stanislav Svozil and Connor Bedard (PP) // Bedard carried the puck into the offensive zone, left the puck for Svozil who found Howe in the slot and he sealed the deal with a powerplay marker to give the Pats an 8-4 lead.

NOTES
Connor Bedard had five points (3G-2A) including his sixth hat-trick of the season. He leads the WHL in goals (48), assists (48), points (96), and shots on goal (255). He has 20 goals, 10 assists, and 30 points in 11 games since coming back from the World Juniors.
Tye Spencer scored his eighth of the season in his return to the line-up after missing 19 games with a lower-body injury.
Borya Valis had a goal and two assists and has points in back-to-back games (1G-3A).
Tanner Howe also had a goal and an assist and has points in back-to-back games (1G-2A).
Stanislav Svozil notched two assists and has 15 points (15A) in 10 games since returning from the World Juniors.
Alexander Suzdalev started a new point streak with a nice goal in the second period. He has 19 points (7G-12A) in his last 11 games.
The Pats went 1/2 on the powerplay and the penalty kill also went 1/2 and has gone 18/21 over the last seven games (85.7%).

The Pats travel to Prince Albert to play the Raiders at the Art Hauser Centre on Friday, February 17th, with a 7:00 pm face-off. The Queen City kids return to the Brandt Centre on Saturday, February 18th when they host the Eastern Conference-leading Winnipeg ICE with a 7:00 pm puck drop.
