Warriors Stumble in Loss to Tigers

Moose Jaw Warriors News Release

Medicine Hat, AB - One night after every bounce going the Moose Jaw Warriors' way, the bounces went the other way on Saturday in Medicine Hat.

The Warriors couldn't ride the momentum from Friday's big win over Calgary and dropped a 6-3 game to the Tigers at Co-op Place.

"It was just one of those nights where we couldn't buy one early and it came back to bite us," Warriors assistant coach Scott King said.

After some good pressure from the Warriors early in the game, the Tigers struck for three goals late in the first period and eventually built up a 4-0 lead in the second.

Moose Jaw cut the Tigers' lead down three on three occasions on goals from Atley Calvert, Jagger Firkus and Brayden Yager, but that was as close as they would get on the night.

"I think we could have been up three in the first 10 minutes and it's a different game. Had some really good looks, grade 'A' opportunities, inside home plate and didn't score," King said. "We tried to push back, but that's a tall hill to climb."

Shane Smith opened the scoring for Medicine Hat midway through the first period.

Brendan Lee would follow that up only 2:13 later and Pavel Bocharov made it a three-goal advantage for the Tigers just 52 seconds after that.

Brayden Boehm extended the Tigers' lead to 4-0 just 4:35 into the second period.

The Warriors were able to get on the board with a power play goal by Calvert, his 16th of the season, with four seconds left in the second.

Medicine Hat cut down the Warriors' momentum when Lee scored his second of the night just 26 seconds into the third.

Firkus scored his team-leading 18th of the season just under six minutes into the third, making it a 5-2 game.

The Tigers restored the four-goal lead when Tomas Mrsic scored midway through the final frame.

The Warriors pulled back within three with 1:34 left in the third when Yager scored his 18th of the season.

"We got that goal at the end of the second period, I thought we have come out and had a little bit different feel in the third, but didn't go our way," King said.

"It was just one of those nights where it seemed it wasn't going to go in for us, it's frustrating, but we'll be better for it and guys have to realize it's not going to come easy every night."

Connor Ungar made 22 saves in the loss as the two sides fired 28 shots on net.

The Warriors finished 2-for-3 on the power play and went 2-for-3 with the penalty kill.

Moose Jaw will now look to rebound on Tuesday when the Spokane Chiefs come to the Hangar for another Two-For-Tuesday.
