Pats Unable to Break the ICE in 6-1 Loss

December 11, 2022 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Regina Pats News Release

Winnipeg, Man. - The short-staffed Regina Pats were unable to gain any traction as they lost 6-1 to the Winnipeg ICE at the Wayne Fleming Arena in Winnipeg.

The ICE depth showed as six different players scored for the hometown club. The ICE scored the first four goals of the contest before the Pats were able to reply. The ICE then bookended the game with two more markers to seal the win.

The Pats' four-game winning streak was snapped but they had a good weekend, picking up four of a possible six points.

Aidan Oiring (fifth), Evan Friesen (fourth), Owen Pederson (15th), Vladislav Shilo (sixth), Skyler Bruce (seventh), and Graham Sward (second) scored for the ICE. Daniel Hauser stopped 19 of 20 shots in the win.

Tanner Howe (20th) replied for the Pats. Kelton Pyne blocked 34 of 40 ICE shots.

THE GOALS

First Period

WPG 0-1 at 1:58 - Aiden Oiring (5), assisted by Ben Zloty and Connor Dale // Zloty sent a backhand toward the Pats net and Oiring got a piece of the puck to deflect it past Pyne to give the ICE an early 1-0 lead.

WPG 0-2 at 14:43 - Evan Friesen (4), assisted by Zach Benson and Karter Prosofsky (PP) // The ICE worked the puck around the offensive zone and they got the puck to the front of the net where Pyne stopped the initial shot but could not grab the loose puck and Friesen tucked in a powerplay goal.

WPG 0-3 at 17:29 - Owen Pederson (15), unassisted // Feist tried to carry the puck near the Pats' crease, got dumped and the puck ended up on Pederson's stick and he made no mistake with the easy tuck in. The miscue proved costly as it gave the ICE a 3-0 lead late in the first frame.

Second Period

WPG 0-4 at 6:28 - Vladislav Shilo (6), assisted by Karter Prosofsky and Ben Zloty // The ICE centred the puck toward the Pats' goal, and the puck redirected past Pyne to extend their lead to 4-0.

REG 1-4 at 11:18 - Tanner Howe (20), assisted by Alexander Suzdalev and Easton Armstrong // The Pats carried it into the ICE zone, Suzdalev got the puck along the left boards and found a streaking Howe who ripped it home to get the Pats on the board at 4-1.

WPG 1-5 at 15:57 - Skyler Bruce (7), assisted by Vladislav Shilo // Pyne stopped the initial shot but had trouble tracking down the rebound and Bruce put it past the Pats netminder to restore the ICE's four-goal lead at 5-1.

WPG 1-6 at 19:57 - Graham Sward (2), unassisted // Sward's long-distance shot eludes Pyne to extend the ICE lead to five goals at 6-1 just before the second intermission.

Third Period

No scoring.
