ICE CHIPS
The Winnipeg ICE play host to the Regina Pats in a 5:00 face off at the ICE Cave inside Wayne Fleming Arena.
Winnipeg is coming off a 6-3 victory Friday night over the Spokane Chiefs. Zach Benson led the attack with his first WHL hat trick, Conor Geekie scored twice while Vladislav Shilo sealed the game with an empty net goal. Connor McClennon chipped in with three assists. Daniel Hauser made 25 saves.
The ICE are playing their second game without defenceman Carson Lambos who was named to the roster for Canada's National Junior Team Selection Camp. Lambos represented Canada at the 2022 World Junior Hockey Championship and 2020 World Under 17 Hockey Challenge.
From October 12th to November 19th, the ICE set a new franchise record with a 15 game winning streak eclipsing the previous mark of 14 games held by the 2009-10 Kootenay ICE.
From October 15th to 22nd, Winnipeg became the first Eastern Conference based team to go a perfect 5-0 on the road versus the B.C. Division since the 2011-12 Kootenay ICE.
Carson Lambos was named the 24th Captain in ICE franchise history on October 6th.
The 19 year old returned from Minnesota Wild Training Camp where he appeared in three NHL preseason games. Connor McClennon, Owen Pederson and Ben Zloty were named alternate captains for 2022-23.
ICE VS PATS
The ICE and Pats will play six times during the regular season (Oct 7 @ Reg 5-2 W / Nov 17 @ Wpg 9-5 W / Nov 19 @ Wpg 5-2 W / today @ Wpg / Feb 18 @ Reg / Mar 3 @ Reg).
Winnipeg has won the first three games against Regina this season. Zach Benson has nine points (three goals and six assists) while Owen Pederson and Matthew Savoie each have eight (three goals and five assists).
Winnipeg had a 7-0 record versus Regina during the 2021-22 regular season led by forwards Matthew Savoie (7 goals and 6 assists) and Zach Benson (6 goals & 7 assists) who each registered 13 points.
