Big First Period Leads Portland Past Tips 4-2

PORTLAND, Oreg. - Three goals in the first period spurred the Portland Winterhawks past the Everett Silvertips at Veterans Memorial Coliseum Sunday night.

Gabe Klassen opened the scoring at 6:14 in the first period, with Carter Sotheran following suit at 7:57. James Stefan snapped a 15-game goalless drought with a powerplay goal at 15:57 for a 3-0 Portland lead after one.

Ryan Hofer blasted a one-timer home for a powerplay goal, his 17th tally of the year, to get the Tips on the board. Aidan Litke provided Portland insurance with a rebound goal at 14:45 in the second period.

While Austin Roest netted his 20th goal of the season in the second, Portland would hold the line in the third period for a 4-2 victory.

Everett turns their attention to the Tri-City Americans, who come to Angel of the Winds Arena Wednesday night at 7:05 p.m. Tickets are available.
