Pats Take out Hitmen 5-2 in Their Annual Teddy Toss Game

Regina, Sask. - The Regina Pats were victorious in the franchise's 26th annual Teddy Bear Toss game as they beat the Calgary Hitmen 5-2 a the Brandt Centre. Tanner Howe got the Teddy Bears flying at 17:35 of the first period as the Pats won their fourth straight game.

Alexander Suzdalev (17th), Tanner Brown (second), Riley Ginnell (fifth), and Layton Feist (fourth) also scored for the Pats in the victory. Drew Sim won his sixth straight contest as he stopped 38 of 40 shots.

Riley Fiddler-Schultz (15th and 16th) scored both goals for the Hitmen in the loss. Brayden Peters kicked out 30 of 33 shots by the Pats.

THE GOALS

First Period

REG 1-0 at 17:35 - Tanner Howe (19), assisted by Stanislav Svozil (PP) // For the second season in a row, Howe gets the Teddy Bear Toss goal. The Pats were streaking in and Svozil hit Howe in the slot and he wired the puck over Peters' glove hand to give the Pats a 1-0 lead late in the first period.

Second Period

REG 2-0 at 2:40 - Alexander Suzdalev (17), assisted by Stanislav Svozil // Svozil sent a pass to Suzdalev who entered the Hitmen zone, cut through the slot, went unopposed, and fired a wrist shot past Peters to extend the Pats lead to 2-0.

Third Period

CGY 2-1 at 19 seconds - Riley Fiddler-Schultz (15), assisted by Sean Tschigerl and Zac Funk // A mad scramble in front of the Pats net and Sim ended up sprawled out and Fiddler-Schultz was able to put the puck over the Pat netminder to cut the Pats lead to one at 2-1.

REG 3-1 at 3:45- Tanner Brown (2), assisted by Brayden Barnett and Alexander Suzdalev // Barnett passed to Brown who let a wrister go from the right zone circle that snuck through Peters to restore the Pats' two-goal lead at 3-1.

CGY 3-2 at 17:26 - Riley Fiddler-Schultz (16), assisted by Sean Tschigerl // Fiddler-Schultz's first shot was stopped by Sim, but the Pats netminder had trouble with the rebound and Fiddler-Shultz grabbed the rebound and put the puck past the Pats goalie to cut the lead to on at 3-2.

REG 4-2 at 18:55 - Riley Ginnell (5), unassisted // From deep in his own zone, Ginnell hit the empty net to give the Pats a 4-2 lead.

REG 5-2 at 19:42 - Layton Feist (4), unassisted // From just inside his own blueline, Feist hit the empty net to give the Pats a 5-2 lead.

NOTES

Tanner Howe is the first Pats player to score consecutive Teddy Bear Toss goals and joins Grant Jacobsen (1999 & 2001) as the only Pat player to score two.

Tanner Howe extended his point streak to eight games (9G-7A-16PTS) and has 22 points (12G-10A) in his last 12 games with the goal.

Alexander Suzdalev picked up two points (1G-1A) and has 28 points (11G-17A) in his last 16 games and extended his point streak to six games.

Stanislav Svozil picked up a pair of assists to extend his point streak to 10 games (3G-18A). He is now up to 37 points (5G-32A) on the season and his 32 assists have him in sole possession of second overall in the league.

Drew Sim has six wins in his last six starts in goal for the Pats.
