Brandon Wheat Kings News Release
The Wheat Kings came out slow allowing the Hitmen to open the scoring in the first period. Some solid cycling by the Anderson, Hyland Ritchie line allowed blue liner Luke Shipley to sneak close to the net and score the opening goal to make it 1-0 Wheat Kings. The Hitmen would kick it into the next gear scoring a pair of goals. First, it was Riley Fiddler-Schultz scoring to tie it up at one. Then with only 1:20 remaining Grayden Siepmann would locate Zac Funk with a cross ice pass giving the Hitmen a 2-1 lead heading into the second period.
The Wheat Kings would tie it up early in the second with Anderson feeding Nolan Ritchie who played the puck across to Brett Hyland who beat Ethan Buenaventura. The goal extended Hyland's goal scoring streak to 6 games. The Hitmen would restore the lead with Jacob Wright scoring on the powerplay after a scrum near the net to make it 3-2 heading into the third period.
The Wheat Kings needed a big third period but they had a cloudy stat floating over their heads. The Wheat Kings were 0-13-1 when trailing after two periods this season and it continued Sunday afternoon with the Hitmen dominating the third. Zac Funk would score his 2nd of the night and then setup the empty net goal to make it 5-2 Hitmen. Funk would finish the night with 2 goals and 3 assists contributing on every goal scored by the Calgary Hitmen.
