Brandon, MB - After a tough loss on home ice on Friday, the Moose Jaw Warriors responded in a big way with a solid road win on Saturday.

Moose Jaw bounced back with 6-2 win over the Wheat Kings in Brandon to close out 2022.

"Obviously you don't like what happened [Friday night], but it's nice to not have to wait too long to see them again and we're much more pleased with tonight's effort and performance all around," Warriors assistant coach Gord Burnett said.

Jagger Firkus led the way for the Warriors with two goals and four points in the win, while Ryder Korczak added a goal and two points, and Connor Ungar made 28 saves.

Firkus opened the scoring with his 20th of the season just 3:48 into the game.

"It's always nice to get the first one, but especially in a situation like this, we wanted to see how we would respond and the goal by Jags to get us going that helps out a lot," Burnett said.

The Seattle Kraken draft pick added to the Warriors lead with 25 seconds left in the first, picking up his 21st goal of the season on an individual shorthanded effort.

The Warriors extended their lead to three when Korczak buried a power play goal for his 13th of the year just 2:36 into the second period.

Back on the power play, Atley Calvert drove the net and scored his 17th of the season to make it 4-0 just past the midway point of the second.

Just over a minute later, Eric Alarie created a turnover in the neutral zone and snapped home his seventh goal of the campaign to make it 5-0 for Moose Jaw.

Brandon added a late goal from Nate Danielson to make it 5-1 after two.

The Wheat Kings pulled within three when Luke Shipley scored just 2:24 into the third.

Harper Lolacher sealed the win for Moose Jaw with a goal just past the midway point of the final frame.

"There's a lot of ways this could have gone and fortunately for us, it went in the way that wanted it to go," Burnett said. "How you prepare is important and obviously the guys responded."

The Warriors will hit the road early next week for a game in Lethbridge on Wednesday and then return home to host Calgary on Friday and Seattle on Saturday at the Hangar.
