ICE Defeat Saskatoon in Overtime

The Winnipeg ICE completed a two-game sweep of the visiting Saskatoon Blades on Saturday at the ICE Cave inside Wayne Fleming Arena with a 2-1 overtime victory.

20-year-old defenceman Ben Zloty scored the game winning goal 44 seconds into the extra frame.

The win improves Winnipeg's record to an Eastern Conference best 28-5, good for a two-point lead over second place Red Deer and a five-point advantage on third place Saskatoon. The ICE have two games in hand on the Rebels while the Blades have a game in hand on the ICE.

Ty Nash also scored for the ICE, his second goal in as many games. Zach Benson extended his consecutive game point streak to eight games (six goals and nine assists for 15 points) with a pair of assists. Matthew Savoie also had two assists to extend his point streak to four games (one goal and five assists for six points).

Vaughn Watterodt had the lone goal for Saskatoon (25-7).

The ICE outshot the Blades 28-23. Mason Beaupit earned the victory in goal making 22 saves. Austin Elliott stopped 26 in the loss.

Winnipeg finished the game 0/6 on the power play while Saskatoon went 0/5.

The ICE return to action Sunday, January 8th at 5:00 at the ICE Cave inside Wayne Fleming Arena when they host the Portland Winterhawks.
