Toledo Walleye News Release

Toledo first struck only 26 seconds into the contest. Streaking down the right boards, Derek Nesbitt entered the Johnstown zone and threw a perfect pass to the crease, where Chris Robertson tipped it in for his ninth goal of the year.

Minutes later, a Toledo record sell-out crowd of 8,200 erupted for JC Sawyer's goal. Sawyer took a pass at the blue-line from Robertson to slap it home for his team co-leading twelfth goal with 3:10 off the clock.

The Walleye added another to take a 3-0 lead when Justin Hodgman lifted a perfect wrist-shot over the glove hand of Chiefs' goaltender Kris Mayotte. Toledo dominated the first period, including outshooting Johnstown 17-7. The Chiefs would score, however, with only 1:12 left in the first to cut the Walleye lead to 3-1.

The momentum from the first carried over to the rest of the contest for the Walleye. The Walleye exploded for four more goals to roll over the Chiefs, including two by Bryan Ewing, extending their current league-best winning streak to eight games.

Toledo plays in Wheeling on December 31 before returning home New Year's Day. The Walleye host Kalamazoo on Friday, January 1.
