Bakersfield Condors News Release

Ontario, CA - The Bakersfield Condors (19-8-2-0, 40 points) held off the Ontario Reign (13-15-2-1, 29 points), 3-2 at Citizens Business Bank Arena on Sunday night in front of 7,365. G Josh Johnson earned the win in his Bakersfield debut with 26 saves, while newcomer RW Ryan Menei registered a goal and an assist in his first game with the Condors. Bakersfield extended their lead over Ontario for first place in the Pacific Division to 11 points.

Bakersfield drew first blood, scoring more in the opening period than they have in the last two visits to Ontario. Menei notched his fifth goal of the season at 2:18 to make it 1-0. At 11:58 LW Shawn Weller put in his own rebound off a breakaway opportunity to make it 2-0 with his 10th. The Reign responded with a power play goal at 17:50 to make it a one-goal game after one. The Condors led 16-10 in shots in the frame.

The Condors scored the only goal of the middle frame and were able to extend the lead. D Eric Regan notched his ninth goal of the season, rifling home a wrister from the left circle on a delayed penalty, just 1:30 into the period. After two periods of play, the Condors led in the shots department 25-20.

In the third, the Condors held Ontario at bay at even strength, but were victimized by late penalties. RW Tony Voce made it 3-2 on the power play with 2:42 remaining in the third period. Johnson and the Condors penalty kill did a magnificent job in the final minutes, shutting down an extended 6-on-3 man-advantage with G Curtis Darling pulled. Bakersfield recorded their first win in three tries at Ontario in 2009-10.
