Victoria Salmon Kings News Release

Victoria, BC - In a Sunday evening match-up, the Victoria Salmon Kings played the first of a two-game in two-night set against the Alaska Aces at the Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre. The Salmon Kings gave Glenn Fisher the nod in goal, while the Aces countered with Scott Reid.

The Salmon Kings started the game by scoring two goals in eight seconds during the opening minute of the game to set a club record for quickest goals in succession. The first marker came 29 seconds into the game. Andy Brandt cut through the slot and backhanded his ninth goal of the season between the legs of goaltender Reid. The second goal was scored at the 37 second mark when Wes Goldie snapped his team-leading 14th goal of year top-shelf from the left face-off circle. Goldie's marker chased Reid from his goaltending duties as Sebastian Dahm replaced him. The two tallies set a franchise record for goals in secession at eight seconds apart. Alaska drew within a goal when Brock McBride collected his first goal of the season on a shot he wristed over the blocker of Fisher at 3:16. Alaska would tie the game at 17:45 when numerous players were inside the Salmon Kings' crease that gave Nick Mazzolini time to come out from the right corner and snap a shot to the top of the net for his 13th goal of the campaign. The game was tied as both teams went into the intermission deadlocked at 2-2.

The Salmon Kings took back the lead at 13:33 of the middle frame while shorthanded. Chad Painchaud and Oliver Latendresse broke out on a two-on-one where Latendresse decided to take the shot where he fired it past Dahm's blocker side for his 10th tally of the year. A mere two minutes later, Goldie took a pass in the slot a fired a backhanded shot past Dahm. Victoria stretched the lead to three in the final minute of the second period while on the power play. Dirk Southern passed the puck from the right wing corner to Taylor Ellington who snuck down from the left point position and redirected the puck past Dahm for his second goal of the season to give Victoria a 5-2 advantage after two periods.

The Aces picked up a goal at 15:31 of the third period to bring the deficit to 5-3. Defensemen Nick Tuzzolinio picked up a clearing attempt and snapped a shot from just outside the top of the left faceoff circle that beat Fisher. Victoria's Chad Painchaud and Brandon Roach each scored an empty net goal to round out the scoring. Salmon Kings 7 Aces 3.
