Kalamazoo Wings News Release

Playing the first of two straight against one another and for the sixth-time this season, the Kalamazoo Wings will host the Cincinnati Cyclones. On the season, Kalamazoo is 2-3-0-0 against Cincinnati, with the home team winning each game.

This afternoon is the second of five straight divisional contests for the K-Wings. Kalamazoo lost last night to Wheeling, which moved the K-Wings out of the first place for the first time this season. With 35 points, Kalamazoo is tied with Cincinnati for second and trails Toledo by one point for first place in the North.

Winning 10 of their last 14 contests has propelled the Cyclones into a second place tie with the K-Wings. Losing last night, Cincinnati is trying to avoid back-to-back regulation losses, which has occurred only twice since last January (01/06/09-01/09/09 and 12/13/09-12/15/09).

Out of First

With a loss last night coupled with a Toledo victory, night marks the first time this season, a span of 71 days, that Kalamazoo does not enter a game with at least a share of first place in the North Division. Despite being tied for second with Cincinnati, the K-Wings, who hold three games in hand over the Walleye and have played two fewer games than the Cyclones, have the best winning percentage in the North (0.648).

Eight's Not Enough

Kalamazoo's Rick Cleaver enters the night on a K-Wings' season-high eight-game point streak. Cleaver has earned 13 points (4 goals, 9 assists) during his current run.

Leading After Two

Last Saturday's overtime loss to Gwinnett marked the first-time this season that the K-Wings had lost a game when leading after two periods. Kalamazoo is now 11-0-1-0 when holding a lead heading into the third period.

Shooting for a Shootout

On the season, the K-Wings have played better in the shootout than in overtime. Kalamazoo, who has dropped three straight overtime finishes are 1-3 in OT this year, while a perfect 4-0 in games that end in a shootout.
