Ontario Reign News Release
ONTARIO, Calif. - The Ontario Reign, proud affiliate of the NHL Los Angeles Kings, was defeated by their rivals and the Pacific Division leading Bakersfield Condors, 3-2, on Sunday evening before 7,365 fans at Citizens Business Bank Arena.
The Condors grabbed the first two goals in the opening period. Right wing Ryan Menei angled a shot into the top shelf with assists from defenseman Sasha Pokulok and center Adam Naglich. At 11:58, left wing Shawn Weller got out on a breakaway and fired off a shot at Ontario goaltender Curtis Darling that barely slid between his pads and over the goal line.
Greg Hogeboom put the Reign up on the board with 2:10 left in the first period. Eight seconds into an Ontario power play, Tim Kraus took a shot on goal that hit Condors netminder Josh Johnson's pads and slid out to Hogeboom, who snapped it into the net.
It only took 1:30 of the second frame for Bakersfield to put up another goal and extend their lead, 3-1. Defenseman Eric Regan's slap shot went top shelf, and right wing Stephane Goulet and defenseman John de Gray picked up the assists.
With just under three minutes left in regulation, Reign defenseman David Walker rifles off a slap shot from just inside the blue line that is deflected into the net by right wing Tony Voce. The late third period goal brought Ontario within one goal of the Condors, but the Reign was unable to beat Johnson or the Bakersfield defense. Bakersfield took the win with a final score of Condors 3, Reign 2.
Three stars: 1. BAK - Ryan Menei 2. ONT - Tim Kraus 3. ONT - Shawn Germain
