LAS VEGAS, Nev. - The Ontario Reign, proud affiliate of the NHL Los Angeles Kings, fell to the Las Vegas Wranglers, 4-2, on Saturday evening before 4,409 fans at Orleans Arena.
The Wranglers took an early 2-0 lead in the first period, with the first from forward Kyle Hagel crossing the goal line at 2:58. Center Francis Lemieux scored the second Las Vegas goal less than a minute later.
Las Vegas goaltender Michael Ouzas held the Reign offense at zero until 4:45 in the second period, when center Jon Francisco capitalized on an Ontario power play and snapped a shot into the net. Defenseman Andrew Martens registered the assist on the goal.
Left wing Mick Lawrence answered back for the Wranglers at 7:14. Lawrence picked up a pass from center Chris Neiszner and fired off a slap shot that sailed into the top shelf over the glove of Ontario netminder Mike Zacharias.
Center Rob Pearce scored his second goal of the season and brought the Reign within one point of the Wranglers at 8:53. Pearce received a feed from Francisco in front of the net and skated to the top of the crease before firing off a backhand shot into the right corner of the net. Defenseman Shawn Germain also claimed an assist on the goal, and Francisco marked his 150th career professional point with the assist on the play.
With less than three minutes remaining in the regulation, Francis Lemieux extended the Wranglers' lead, 4-2, with his second goal of the night. Lemieux's goal marked the last of the game, and Las Vegas went on to win the match with a final score of Wrangler 4, Reign 2.
