Memphis Redbirds News Release
MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The Memphis Redbirds continued a six-game homestand with a 5-2 win over the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp (Triple-A, Miami Marlins) on Thursday night at AutoZone Park.
Memphis right fielder Jordan Walker led the way both at the plate and in the field. The right-handed hitter went 3-for-4 with a 427-foot two-run home run to open the scoring in the fourth inning. With the game tied in the sixth, Walker threw out the potential lead run at the plate for his fourth outfield assist of the season.
Third Baseman Jared Young and left fielder Moises Gomez each recorded two hits in the win. In his first game since being activated from the Injured List, Gomez went 2-for-3 with a walk and an RBI. Eight of the nine Redbirds batters reached base safely in the game.
Starting pitcher Zack Thompson allowed two runs in 5.0-plus innings. The left-handed pitcher did not allow a run through his first 5.0 frames but walked the first two batters of the sixth inning before being lifted. Thompson allowed three hits, walked three and struck out four in a no-decision. Connor Thomas (3-2) tossed a scoreless inning in relief for the win. Ryan Loutos (S, 6) pitched a 1-2-3 ninth to earn the save.
The Memphis Redbirds return to AutoZone Park to continue a six-game homestand against the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp on Friday, June 21 with first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m. CDT.
